The census counts everyone in the Unites States. Census results help determine more than $675 billion to support vital programs across the country. These funds shape local healthcare, housing, education, transportation, employment, and more. Census data is safe, secure, and protected by law. Invitations to respond to the 2020 census will be delivered between March 12 - 20, 2020. Once you receive that invitation to can respond by phone, online, or by mail.

The outer envelope will say "U.S. Census Bureau" and "U.S. Department of Commerce", which is the Census Bureau's parent agency. The return address will show:

The enclosed envelope for mailingg the completed paper questionnaire will be addressed to either Jeffersonville, IN, or Phoenix, AZ, where the Census Bureau has mail processing centers. The Census Bureau will never ask you for: your full Social Security number, your bank account or credit card numbers, anything on behalf of a political party, money or donations.

All homes will receive a paper questionnaire if they do not respond online or by phone. When responding, use a blue or black ink to fill in the questionnaire. Do not use pencil.
